1/8/2024 0 Comments Free for mac instal GearCityUpdated Ogre to 1.10.12, and all other minor libraries to latest builds. Replaced Initialization code to use Object-C++ As such, I've had to do extra work just getting stuff working. People who work on FOSS generally neglect working on Apple products, because Apple makes life extremely tough for anyone working on cross-platform code. GearCity is mostly built on FOSS technologies. Sadly it is the 3% taking away development time from the other 97%, But hopefully some of the work will translate across to other OS's. In ways, that is fine, as the OSX port needed some improvements. With Apple dropping 32-bit support next year or the year after, and thus dropping the technologies we use in GearCity, I have been forced to do a bit of engine work. This has seriously degraded the quality of GearCity for anyone playing on modern copies of OSX. Over the years, they have seriously neglected the parts of their operating system that confirm to general computing standards (C++/Carbon) in favor of their own (well that failed company, NextStep's), poorly designed stuff (Objective-C/Cocoa). Unfortunately, the folks over at Apple suffer from a terrible case of NIH. Our little old engine is able to handle what I can afford to throw at it. Since I am only one person with finite time, I have not been able to "chase technology" and keep the engine up-to-date.Īnd this has mostly been fine. Most of the engine dates from this time period as well. I'll be using this thread to update you on the progress of the upgrades.Īs you may or may not know, GearCity has been in development since 2010.
